The Third International Conference of th Center for Romanian Studies on
th subject Biography and Romanian Studies will be hed in lasi,Romania
from 9-13 July 1997.
Accepted topics will be those related to the past. present and future
uses of biography in Romanian studies,as well as presentations or
discussion of specific biographies of important Romanian
historical,political,literatry, and cultural personalities, as well as
foreign personalities who played an improtant role in Romanian culture
Languages usid will be English and Romanian.As with past conferences,
the papers presented at the conference will be published.Presentations
will be limited to 20minutes,but papers submitted for publication can
be substantially longer.The Center for Romanian Studies will provide.

Revolution, together with the Institute of History of the Russian
Academy of Sciences, is organising an international conference, "1917
and the Fate of Russia and the World". Its first meeting, "The February
Revolution: from New Sources to new Interpretations", was held on
February 4-5 in Moscow. The second conference, "The October Revolution:
from New Sources to new Interpretations", will be held 21-22 October in
